There's a reason that Christ ministered to the lepers, the crippled, the widows, the tax collectors, the poor, and the hopeless of his generation; they were at the end of their rope. These people were totally humbled and what Christ was promising was everything they didn't have. To the poor he promised riches. To the dying he promised life. To the crippled he promised a new body. The hopeless are always easier to reach than those of us who feel self sufficient.
