Sunday, April 3rd
Sunday was a good day that we started by sharing in the Lord's Supper along with a hearty breakfast while sitting on the living room floor. Our food choices were pastries, many different fruits, and muffins. We shared in the Lord's Supper and sang some songs to meditate on the sacrifice that Christ made as an appropriation for our sin. What a good time to fellowship with other believers. Thank you Lord for your goodness and mercy.
After a good breakfast we put on our hiking clothes and headed off to the 'mountain.' We still don't know the name of it, but this is our third year to hike up it without any name, so it doesn't bother us. The mountain looks out over the cities of El Paso and Juarez with a very scenic view of our surroundings. The view this year was a bit different though. The scenery itself had not changed, but our viewing point had. Where we hiked was along a dirt road that was owned by the power companies there in Texas. It seems there had been some problems lately and they put up a fence with a locked gate to keep out intruders. That included us. So we tried a different route, that really didn't appease our dedicated hikers, but nonetheless we didn't break the law by going around the barbed-wire fence. Our view less than spectacular, but we did enjoy each others company, even the two young men that seemed to not be able to follow the rest of the group back down the mountain.
One of the highlights of our trip was caused by one of our girls, I won't mention names, who accidentally locked out the rest of the girls from their room, when nobody was inside the room. Neither Matt nor I had a key for it, and it seemed that no one at the church did either. We called the church office and they sent over two security guards, whose combined age had to of been at least 150 years, to help us. They didn't have a key either. They pried at the door for a while and in the end we asked Justin Lumsden, one of our young men, to kick in the door, I believe on the third kick he went right through. What a moment. The young lady felt awful, but it really wasn't her fault, don't worry about it Lauren.
The rest of Sunday was spent in the house and back to another park where we could play some Frisbee, some wiffle-ball and soccer. Not near as exciting as the door incident. The kids seemed to enjoy themselves more at this park with grass, than at the school with concrete...everywhere. We had a wonderful lasagna dinner that night and off to bed we went after our evening devotional in anticipation for Monday; our first day of work.
